Valley of Fire Elopement Planning Guide

A desert elopement with room to breathe

Valley of Fire’s red sandstone makes a striking setting for an intimate celebration. Start with the park’s current access and approval process, then build the experience around a realistic route, comfortable conditions, and the moments you want to remember.

Confirm your ceremony location and approvals

Ask the park which ceremony sites, times, and vendor arrangements can be approved for your plans. Do not assume a scenic trail or an older wedding photograph identifies an available ceremony location. Review Nevada State Parks special-use guidance and confirm the requirements directly before committing to the site.

Professional photo and film work may require separate authorization. Your team should check the photography and filming permit guidance for the activity involved. Entry fees and an event reservation are not interchangeable with that approval.

Arrange transportation both ways

Build in time for the drive, entrance, parking, and movement between approved locations. The park warns that a return rideshare can be difficult to obtain, so arrange reliable transport for the whole visit. Share the meeting location and route beforehand. Keep your ceremony items, water, and practical footwear together so they are easy to reach.

Check closures before choosing your plans

The park posts an annual maintenance closure and seasonal trail closures. Weddings and commercial photography are prohibited during the full maintenance closure. Check the official park page before booking and again before travel. An older summer gallery is not evidence that the same route is open or suitable now.

Plan portraits within approved hours; general day use runs from sunrise to sunset. The park prohibits drones. Allow enough time to leave without rushing your final photographs.

Make the experience comfortable

Talk through the walking distance and terrain with everyone attending. Keep the itinerary simple, build in breaks, and choose attire that allows movement. Have a weather backup with your vendors and decide how changes will be communicated. Avoid adding props or activities without checking what your approval allows.

Leave natural features as you find them. A thoughtful, compact celebration can still give you a rich photo story: arriving together, your vows, family embraces, and a quiet portrait walk.
